◇ ASTM F899: wrought stainless steel for surgical instruments
316LS / 316LVM surgical steels are electroslag remelted (ESR) or vacuum arc remelted (VAR), low carbon, high nickel and molybdenum versions of 316 stainless steel. A second high-quality melting step improves cleanliness. Chemical modification is designed to maximize the alloy’s corrosion resistance and provide a ferrite-free microstructure.
